What the Kangaroo contest is

The Kangaroo is a multiple-choice contest for school students, run by national organisers in many countries – as Känguru der Mathematik in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Kangourou in France, Kangourou della Matematica in Italy, Canguro Matemático in Spain, Kangoeroe in the Netherlands, Kangur Matematyczny in Poland and the UKMT Kangaroo in the United Kingdom. In most countries the paper is written on the third Thursday of March; a few, such as India and Korea, use other dates. The number of questions and the time depend on the age group and the country.

What it asks

A four-step preparation plan

  1. Fluency every day: 10 minutes of Math Fighter fights keeps times tables and mental arithmetic sharp. See the times tables and mental maths tricks.
  2. Learn the methods: estimating, trying systematically, working backwards. Ask Sensei to explain a method at your grade level.
  3. Practise the paper: sit the free official papers of your national organiser under timed conditions.
  4. Review mistakes: turn each wrong answer into a topic to revisit with the tutor.

Math Fighter is an independent training tool. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the organisers of any contest named on this page, and it does not contain their official questions. For the exact paper format, use the free official papers published by each organiser.
